One thing I must do, lest I forget,

Is to always give thanks for whatever I get.

From animal, stranger, friend, or God,

I want all to know that I offer my nod.

No one is obliged to consider my needs,

Or enhance my being by one of their deeds.

So when a person gives of themselves for me,

It deserves my thanks that they can see.

It doesn’t take much to show delight,

Acknowledging a kindness is only polite.

A handshake, a bow, or a tip of the hat,

Displays appreciation by how we react.

Even the animals show gratitude,

While many humans are often rude.

Dogs display thanks while people will fail,

Remove a thorn from its paw, then observe it’s tail.
